LVAC Group Fitness: Q&A with Patricia Liston

LVAC: Tell us a little about yourself and what you do at LVAC.

I’m an avid fitness professional who finds immense value in showing our members how to lead healthier and dynamically expressive lives. I manage over 200 amazing instructors that make our team the best in the Vegas valley. I’m immersed in developing branded, cutting edge programs for our instructors/clubs and making LVAC lead the way with dynamic programming. I additionally ensure that our [group fitness] programs are packed with education and with that, we are getting our programs certified through the American Council on Exercise (ACE), a leading fitness organization that certifies fitness education. I manage a robust schedule of over 700 classes per week and all the administration that goes along with this position.

LVAC: What classes are you certified to teach? Or what classes do you currently teach?

I’m certified as well as I certify formats on our schedule. To name a few: H.E.A.T by LVAC, Les Mills’ BodyCombat & BodyPump, HIIT and Cycle. We have certified workshops that are offered through our Instructor Workshop programs (interested members are invited to attend if they’re interested in teaching).

LVAC: We can’t help it with this question, what is your favorite class offered at LVAC?

My absolute favorite is H.E.A.T by LVAC (High Energy Athletic Training). This class is packed with exciting ways to train our members. It allows instructors to be diverse in their class offering and keeping it exciting and challenging at the same time.

LVAC: On a recovery day, what is your go-to class?

Yoga! We have amazing yoga instructors who take their craft seriously and love teaching at our clubs.

LVAC: When you need that heart-pumping high intensity class, what are some classes you recommend?

HIIT, HIIT Xpress, H.E.A.T, Kettle Bell Power, Cycle

LVAC: What is one of the most underutilized classes at LVAC?

Aqua – our Aqua programs can offer an amazing way to cross train. If you need to take the impact off your joints and still get an amazing, total body workout, try one of our Rapid Liquid Cardio aqua classes. It will definitely challenge you.

LVAC: What do most people NOT know about group fitness?

It is a welcoming environment. You don’t have be “in shape” to jump into a class. We offer modifications for all fitness levels. That’s what our program does – gets you in the best shape of your life. We offer such a diverse host of classes, there’s something for everyone.

LVAC: What are tips you give to people who have NEVER taken a group fitness class?

Introduce yourself to the instructor. Let them know of any injuries you’re nursing or that they should be aware of. Don’t hesitate to get right up front and jump right in. Don’t be afraid! Enjoy the energy in the room and bring your friends to enjoy the workout with you. You will meet new friends and other people to share your journey with.

LVAC: What should members bring to a group fitness class?

Bring your enthusiasm and your energy. We offer all the relevant equipment for all our classes. So, they just need to bring their willingness to enjoy the fitness journey.

LVAC: Class to prepare for a zombie apocalypse?

HIIT or H.E.AT by LVAC.  These classes are so dynamic, no zombie would ever keep up.

LVAC: Does LVAC have any proprietary classes?

Kettle Bell Power by LVAC
DanceFit by LVAC
Sandbag Xpress by LVAC
