Celebrate National Physical Fitness and Sports Month with LVAC!

May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month—a time to recommit moving our bodies, being mindful of our health, and finding ways to have fun during physical activity. Whether you’ve been going to the gym for years or are just getting started, this month is a reminder that every step, every rep, and every time you show up to the gym counts. If you fell out of a gym routine, your journey toward better health can start here.

The Importance of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month

The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) celebrates National Physical Fitness and Sports Month every year and notes that “low levels of regular physical activity have coincided with an alarming increase in the prevalence of chronic illnesses and mental health disorders.” At LVAC, we place high value on fitness and wellness and strive to create an environment and community where regular physical activity can be practiced for everyone—regardless of age or fitness level. The benefits of consistent exercise go far beyond just physical appearance. They include:

  • Better heart health and reduced risk of chronic diseases
  • Stronger muscles and bones
  • Improved mood and mental health
  • Better sleep and more energy
  • Weight management and increased mobility as we age

Above all, physical activity boosts overall quality of life—helping us live a longer, happier, and better life.

So, How Do We Celebrate National Physical Fitness and Sports Month?

The National Institutes of Health recommends at least:

  • 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity (like brisk walking or swimming), or
  • 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity (like running or cycling)
  • Plus 2 days of strength training per week

That’s just 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

And for the last two weeks of May, that’s only a minimum of 10 workouts to hit the goal!

Let’s Do This! Two Weeks to Get Active

With just two weeks left in May, we’re challenging all our members to meet or exceed the minimum recommended level of physical activity by May 31st. That means:

  • 150 minutes of moderate cardio per week
  • 2 strength training sessions per week

Remember: That’s only a minimum of 10 workouts in two weeks to hit the goal!

Hit the cardio or weight machines, take a class, enjoy the pool—whatever keeps you moving!

It’s YOUR YEAR, YOUR GYM. Let’s get moving and finish May strong—together.

See you at the gym!
